While certain words are followed by an infinitive, certain words require a preposition followed by a gerund. Fill in the blanks with an infinitive or an -ing form.

Addicted is followed by to + ing form.

2. He is averse ………………… cards.

Correct! Wrong!

Averse is followed by to + ing form.

3. He went to London ……………… for work.

Correct! Wrong!

4. I am bent ………………… the meeting.

Correct! Wrong!

Bend is followed by on + ing form.

5. He advised us …………………. from that attempt.

Correct! Wrong!

Advised is followed by a to-infinitive.

6. I expect ……………….. them tomorrow.

Correct! Wrong!

Expect is followed by a to-infinitive.

7. I insisted ………………… my say.

Correct! Wrong!

Insisted is followed by on + ing form.

8. They tried to stop me ………………...

Correct! Wrong!

Stop is followed by from + leaving.

9. He intends …………………. a dictionary.

Correct! Wrong!

Intend is followed by a to-infinitive.

10. It is hard ……………….. access to him.

Correct! Wrong!

Hard is followed by an infinitive.

11. He is desirous ………………… the first prize.

Correct! Wrong!

Desirous is followed by of + ing form.

12. He was disqualified ………………. for exceeding the speed limit.
