'What' means the things which. It cannot replace that. 'Which' is not common after 'only'.

After quantifiers like something, anything and everything, we prefer that to which.

5. She married a nice young guy …………….. was her senior at college.

Correct! Wrong!

The relative pronoun who replaces words like he, she or they.

6. This is the house ………………

Correct! Wrong!

7. It is a story ……………… will captivate readers of all ages.

Correct! Wrong!

The relative pronoun which can only refer to things. That can refer to both people and things.

8. The proposal ……………… she put forward was quite interesting.

Correct! Wrong!

9. She is somebody ………………. really can’t stand.

Correct! Wrong!

When the relative pronoun is the object of the relative clause, it is sometimes left out.

10. She has married someone ……………. I really admire.

Correct! Wrong!

Who is possible here in an informal style.

11. What is the name of the tall girl ………………. just walked in?

Correct! Wrong!

In identifying relative clauses, we can use that to refer to people.

12. Is that your car ……………….. is parked outside?

Correct! Wrong!
